The Romney, Hythe, and Dymchurch Railway, relies on volunteer help to complement its dedicated paid staff and it certainly meets the Fun, Worthwhile and New Experience criteria in shovel loads.  

Never has its need been greater as the railway heads towards its hundredth anniversary in 3-years’ time and with many more visitors expected we are looking for more volunteers in every area of the railway’s work.

If you have some spare time and would like to support the Railway then we would love to hear from you. Opportunities available include:

Welcoming the new and the regular visitors to the Railway, Hythe, and Romney Marsh.

From our gift shops, cafes, and restaurants, there are many opportunities to get involved.

‘Gladys’ the Bar Car travels the length of the line serving drinks and snacks to private hire groups. Volunteer for ‘Gladys’ to become a casual tour guide and bar server.

Promoting the railway at trade shows and exhibitions - fun days out, meeting new people and making friends along the way.

From track, to buildings, to trains - keeping the railway safe, attractive and preserving its heritage.

Developing our gardens at each station to not only look amazing but to also provide habitats and forage for wildlife.

Safety duties operating our trains and may be even driving them (a longer apprenticeship there)
